National Capital Commission ready to revamp Sussex Drive: City hopes to remove 'atrocious' U.S. Embassy barriers

The City of Ottawa is working on a plan to remove the temporary concrete barriers in front of the U.S. embassy on Sussex Drive that have been there since 2001.

I hope that this plan succeeds. The US government (in understandable concern following the 9/11 attacks) forced through ugly barricades that blocked off traffic lanes in the heart of downtown Ottawa. Hopefully the revamp of the street will remain secure for the embassy but also in keeping with the beauty of Ottawa's downtown.
